has been practicing orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics in the Northwoods of Wisconsin since June 1974. Dr. Schmidt was born in South St. Paul, Minnesota. He earned his dental degree from the University of Minnesota where he graduated with highest honors in 1970. After dental school, Dr. Schmidt served his country for two years with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina. In 1974, upon completion of graduate school in Orthodontics at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Schmidt and his family moved to Rhinelander where they have lived ever since.
Dr. Schmidt has been instrumental in pioneering orthodontic and surgical
treatments for facial deformities in the Northern Wisconsin area. He has a special interest in cleft lip/palate problems and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction. He has given numerous area presentations on orthodontic problems and facial deformities. He teaches graduate students in orthodontics at Marquette University in Milwaukee, part-time.
Dr. Schmidt is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontists and a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontists. The certification process consists of a rigorous national evaluation by his peers and is a distinction given to less than 25% of all practicing orthodontists.
Dr. Schmidt is also a member of the American Dental Association, American Association of Orthodontists, the Midwest Society of Orthodontists, the Wisconsin Dental Association and the Oneida County Dental Society. He is past President of the Wisconsin Society of Orthodontists.
Dr. Schmidt has been an integral part of the Rhinelander Community for many years. He is a member of Rotary and served as a member of the Rhinelander District School Board for 12 years. He and his wife, Nancy, enjoy the many outdoor activities available in the beautiful Northwoods area. Their oldest son Brad is an internist at the Dean Clinic in Madison. Brad and wife Chris have two sons, Adam and Issac. Their son Andy, is an orthodontist and practices with his father in Rhinelander.
